So I'm a huge fan of Least I Could Do and LFG Comic. If you haven't checked them out already, you should. Not only are the art and writing amazing, but the gentlemen who produce these comics must be the hardest working guys in the business. Least I Could Do is a strip format full-color comic published on a daily basis and LFG Comic is full page, also in color and published twice a week. It should be noted that Least I Could Do is in the PG-13 area of things, so if you're going to check them out keep that in mind.
I bring up these strips not only to let you know how awesome they are, but also to discuss a post that Sohmer made that spoke true to the message of this blog. In his post he's discussing the new Transformers movie and Film Elitism.
First off, if you haven't seen the movie, you should. If you like action movies at all, you'll love this one. If you make your movie seeing decisions based solely off reviews, you'd never see this movie in a million years. The movie is a summer blockbuster, not a thought provoking drama. I, like Sohmer, fail to see why it is that every movie that comes out seems to need to have some deeper meaning in order to be a critical success.
We should review movies based on how well they do their job. In my mind movies serve one main function and that is to entertain. Sure, a good movie can reveal something we never knew, or make us think more about some human condition, but in the end the primary reason movies exist is as a form of entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of off the wall, quirky, critically acclaimed movies too. I just fail to see why every movie has to be that way.

Join the Revolution

Two Bit News has a wonderful post detailing how you too can inflate your ego by joining the pretentious revolution.
I thought I'd add on a few of my own!
- Become a fanboy - It doesn't matter what you decide to devote your unbridled love to, but once you pick something you must let everyone know that it is the best thing ever. Anyone who says anything else, is an idiot and should be ridiculed as such.
- Derailment - Insert yourself into any conversation, and promptly begin talking about whatever you feel you know everything about. Especially if your topic of choice has nothing to do with the current topic at hand. Show off how smart you are by going on endlessly about such inane topics as the slight color variation between Smurfs.
- Complain, frequently.
- Buy a Mac
- Write a blog
When did it become cool to be a pretentious jerk?

I've noticed a disturbing trend. It seems that in order to be hip or cool, the best thing to do now is to be a total jerk.
Maybe it's the anonymity of the internet that has encouraged this trend. Or maybe it's a cultural shift. Who knows why, but I'm sick of it.
Case in point - The author here is supposed to be reviewing a new child seat with side-impact protection. Instead he takes the opportunity to rant about a variety of topics, most of which are only loosely related to the item at hand.
While I'm never one to support playing on people's fears in order to sell something, this guy takes his rant a little too far. While I'm sure there are plenty of irresponsibly parents out there, that's not the only reason someone would get in an accident where this item would come in handy. A perfectly safe driver could easily get t-boned by someone who decided to run a red light or something else stupid.
